John Obi Mikel has been named the Team Nigeria skipper for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The games service in Nigeria expressed that the Chelsea midfielder has been picked as he is viewed as "a good example to the forthcoming competitors."
The 29-year-old is one of the over-matured players named in the Nigeria Under-23 national group for the men's football occasion at the Olympics.
It is the first occasion when that Mikel will show up at the Olympic Games.
Table tennis star Funke Oshonaike has been named aide chief.
"Mikel is a youthful, energetic footballer of global status and we trust he will be a good example to the up and coming competitors while Funke Oshonaike is experienced and is one of the most seasoned competitors in the group. We trust that their joined endeavors will convey goodwill to Team Nigeria and undertaking the province's picture emphatically to the world," expressed the head of mission, Christian Ohaa.
The Olympics in Brazil will be arranged between August 5 and 21.
